I’m going to be on the critical side. The article was okay but didn’t really answer the question in your title. You jumped to the abstract with topology but mentioned nothing about analysis, geometry, group theory, number theory, algebra, statistics.

Mathematics is behind almost everything we do but you did not really list those and match them with the branch of mathematics or Pure versus applied.
