Be an Architect and Archeologist

What do I mean by architect and archaeologist?

An archaeologist digs. Often when we dig, with or without a therapist, we are digging for “the problem.” Looking for “what’s wrong” so we can fix it and be happy. Digging can be very helpful but it often brings up negative experiences and emotions. If not careful, we begin to focus on just the negative and a downward spiral begins.

When digging, dig for the positive too.

An architect designs and builds. Design and build your happiness. How? Play! Ask yourself, “how do I play?”

What is play?

Play is something you do that you enjoy so much, you don’t want to stop.

Play brings joy.

In my age group, as a kid, play might have been that game of tag or hide and seek we did until the sun went down and our parents called us in.

Fun

Don’t confuse what you do for fun with play. Fun is good, but in play we lose ourselves in the moment. I know, they can be similar. This is just an example from my own experience.

Going out with friends for a drink and conversation can be fun, but…
